There are a lot of ways to monetize a blog, you can use Google Adsense, Infolinks, Bidvertiser or other advertising networks there are tons of them out there. You can also find some banner advertising networks and put their banner widgets on your site. You can pick affiliate products and promote them on your blog, you can as well sell ad space on your blog, but that doesn’t really work well for new blogs. You can as well use CPA offers to monetize your blog.
Now, one method can work for one site and one for another, it also depends a lot on the niche of the site. For example, if you have an entertainment blog then it’s highly unlikely that you will find affiliate products to promote so, advertising network would be the way to go, but in a niche of internet marketing there isn’t a better way of monetizing a blog than building a list.
No advertising network or CPA offer will pay you more than a list can make you in the long run. When using all these other methods to monetize your site, you are just helping others to build their lists in exchange for some money and they are building lists for a reason, because when you capture someone on a list, you can sell to him multiple times and you can also build a relationship with your customers and when you have built that trust you can then sell higher ticket products to them.
When you are monetizing your blog by building a list it doesn’t mean you can’t use other methods of monetization, but you should use all the main parts of your blog, that get seen the most, for promoting your list some of the best places are:
The top of your sidebar, put a banner or a direct opt-in form there. After every blog post again put a banner or form. Put links inside your content to promote your squeeze page. Put a call to action in your blog posts that lead to a squeeze page. Put a banner that links to your squeeze page at the very bottom of your page. Put a pop up ad on your blog you can have a form or a banner that links to your squeeze page pop up, now a lot of marketers don’t recommend to do this, but I think it’s a very effective way of capturing more of the traffic that comes to your blog, of course set up your pop up in a way that it wont appear to your returning visitors, I have set it up so the pop up wont show after 5 visits, by the time they are either subscribed or really not interested in subscribing.
So, if you are in the niche of internet marketing then go and stat building that list.
