You have probably heard all the statistics of video marketing. Hours upon hours of video footage uploaded to YouTube and other sites daily, hours upon hours of video being watched every second etc. I think I don’t really need to repeat all that.
You already know how big of an opportunity video marketing is and you have already started capitalizing on it by creating videos and uploading them to YouTube, Vimeo, Metacafe etc.
Now, that you have some videos online what’s next? Will you wait for your videos to get ranked and start bringing you that high quality video traffic or will you take your success in your own hands and promote them yourself?
Well, if you want success here and now then it would be silly to wait, right? So,go get to work, but before that I actually want to explain the big benefit of promoting your videos.
The benefits of promoting your YouTube videos
You see YouTube has an algorithm that determines whether a video is good or not and if it’s good then it gets featured next to relevant videos and shown in the YouTube search results, this means free traffic to you.
One part of the algorithm is views – the more views the video has, the better it ranks. You can get views easily by promoting your video. Getting comments, likes and subscribers also influence your YouTube rankings – you can get all these again by promoting your YouTube video.
So, by promoting your videos you increase the rankings of your videos on YouTube which leads to tons of free targeted traffic.
Now, that you clearly now why you should promote your videos lets get into the how to.
1. Social Media
The simplest and easiest way to spread the word about your videos is on your social media channels.
If you open up any video on YouTube and click the share tab you can see a ton of sites where you can share your videos. Go through all of them for every single of your videos. With time as you build the following on your social media channels you will generate more and more traffic. So, don’t worry if at the beginning you wont get any views, it takes time.
2. Google AdWords
Is there a better place to promote your YouTube videos than on YouTube itself? People are already there to watch videos and you get on top of the rankings without the hard work, but by paying a little bit of money.
The advertising for videos is very cheap and don’t forget you aren’t promoting to get an immediate ROI, you promote your videos so, that you would rank higher on YouTube and get the traffic for which you are paying on AdWords for free.
You can get views for your videos for pennies of the dollar fairly easy, unless you are in some super competitive niche.
3. Facebook advertising
If you don’t like Google AdWords then an alternative place to promote your videos is on Facebook. Now, it’s harder to get these cheap views on Facebook, you really need to know what you are doing, but it is possible.
You can promote your YouTube video directly or share it in a post on your fanpage and kill two birds with one stone – get views for your video and at the same time build up your following on Facebook which will make the first promotion method more effective.
4. StumbleUpon ads
StumbleUpon ads are a good way to get cheap views for your videos. Well, methods 2 and 3 are probably better, but if you have problems with them, maybe your AdWords account is shut down and you can’t manage to set up a Facebook advertising campaign that would deliver cheap enough views then StumbleUpon might be a good fit for you.
It’s very easy to set up StumbleUpon ads, there aren’t gazillion options to choose from, everything is pretty basic and the advertising cost is very low. So, this can really be a good place to promote your videos.
-1. What you don’t want to do
When using methods 1 to 4 to promote your videos you will get the benefit of increased YouTube rankings, but there are also places where you can promote your videos that will very likely result in your videos getting shut down.
What I have in mind is every single service that delivers fake views. In this technology age it would be dumb to think that you can fool YouTube. It can easily determine are the views natural or is the video viewed by bots. So, don’t even waste your time with services like that, you will only get into trouble.
How Much Is Enough
You might be wondering how many views is enough to see an increase in your video rankings. Well, it depends, if you are just getting started and your channel is brand spanking new then you should go for 200-300 views, but as you keep working on your channel you might reach a level when you only need 20 views and YouTube already starts to promote it.
Of course, your video optimization has a lot to do with this. If you haven’t optimized your video correctly then YouTube wont know what is the video about and where to feature it so, you wont be getting a lot of traffic. So, it really depends on a lot of factors, more views are better of course, but when you are spending money you don’t want to get crazy.
